This is a creation of a genius. It has been acclaimed as one of the greatest creation in modern times by the artiste. In this raga the artist has tried to combine the two major MELAS (THAAT) i.e. KALYAN and BILAWAL. Bilawal raga is often called as the YAMAN of morning. Combining the best of YAMAN and BILAWAL raga, Professor Chaudhuri has given the raga a new SA or GA, MA, RE, PA or ma, DHA, NI, SA, NI, PA, ma, RA, GA, MA, GA, give the raga not only a new dimension but also a romantic feeling. This raga is the creation of an artist in whose performance the listener can hear the consummate skill and feelingful involvement with his love-SITAR. In this recording the artiste has played two compositions (GAT) in teen tala, a cycle 16 beats. Technically a slow rhythm is known as MASITAK KHANI GAT and a fast tempo is know as RAZA KHANI GAT.

DEVABRATA CHAUDHURI, who is widely known as DEBU CHAUDHURI is one of India’s outstanding musicians with sober classicism. After a short spell of learning from Late Panchu Gopal Dtta he went to USTAD MUSHTAQ ALI KHAN SAHAB, a leading torch bearer of SENIA GHARANA, which is the Only Gharana is Indian Music having 17 frets in Sitar till date. Professor Chaudhuri’s recitals are marked by a rare sense of aesthetics, grace, melodious and a refined sweetness unexcelled. His contribution to Indian music in his creation of SEVEN RAGAS i.e. RAGA BISWESWARI, PALAS SARANG, ANURANJANI, ASHIQI, LALIT, KALYANI BILAWAL, SWANANDESHWARI & SHIVAMANJARI, and trained many students who are now performers and well known teachers at Universities not only in India but all over the World. to promote Indian music, Debu Chaudhuri has visited more than a hundred universities around the World and made 40 trips abroad by now and performed in various International Music Festivals. Professor Chaudhuri is the senior most teacher and the DEAN, Faculty of Music & Fine Arts and Head of the Department of Music, University of Delhi.
He was the advisor to the project in introducing Indian Music Department in Leicester, U.K., under the sponsorship of ICCR and Leicestershire County Council, a project, which is the first of its kind. Recently he made another landmark in the history of our music propagation by lecturing and performing in SWEDEN. He gave 87 lecture demonstrations and 27 concerts in 69 days in SWEDEN which is, perhaps, a World record. His book “SITAR and its TECHNIQUE” is another dimension of his creativity, and the book was soul out within six months of its release. The second edition is now in press. With all these qualities, Debu, has secured for himself a unique position in the realm of Indian Classical Music.
Shafaat Ahmed Khan
Born in 1954, Shafaat Ahmed belongs to Delhi Gharana. Shafaat has accompanied almost with all the senior artists of India. He is one of the top most tabla player of the country.
