Everyone knows that Rama defeated Ravana and returned to Ayodha with Sita to be coronated King and Queen. However, less known is what happened next! LAVA & KUSA is the story of how Sita is banished to the forest where she bears Rama’s two sons whom she raises at the hermitage of Valmiki. Carefully hiding her identity, she nevertheless sings the glories of Ram. Her sons, Lava and Kusha, are enamored by the stories throughout their formative years. Sita carefully protects them from the knowledge of their father’s identity so that they would not feel any pain of rejection. The boys are regaled by the magnificent pastimes of Ram, and they persuade their mother to allow them to visit the King and glorify Him with their songs. Lord Rama is enchanted by their purity, but when they discover that He cruelly banished the pure and chaste Sita, they become angry with Him. They leave Ayodya in disgust and return to their mother. Still unaware of their parentage, the boys wage war on Lord Rama. A great battle takes place between father and sons. Only the appearance of Sita in the final chapter of this tragic misunderstanding saves their lives and clears up the story. Tears and hugs of joy complete this unforgettable experience. Five stars.
