India, a majorly rural country, has a number of tribes, which are imbibed into the civilized world and a part of economically growing group of people. There are yet some tribes, which are quite backward and unwilling to comply with the path of progress. Gonds of Madhya Pradesh are one such tribe.

Since they belong to the deep recess of the jungle, they are familiar with the flora ad fauna of the place. What they paint reflects this knowledge. The people themselves are in search of prey and here too, the animals are wanting to catch the birds on the tree. The wolves are trying hard to reach the birds but in vain. The birds perched on the tree do not seem concerned and go about their business of chirping and singing. The tree has numerous branches and is laden with spring leaves.

Short lines forming rectangles form the unusual pattern on the bodies of the birds and animals. Blue is the predominant colour used here. The rectangles are distinguished by a slight change in the colour of a few lines. The tree displays a semi-circular design, which extend from the tree trunk to its branches. The fiery red branches are as far removed from reality as anything else in the painting. A certain amount of tidiness is apparent as the painter goes about his work. A stark white background lets the bright pure colours enjoy the limelight.
