The whole Vaishnavism tradition is based on Guru Parampara, which means that the knowledge of the Absolute Truth mentioned in the Vedas is passed to others through bona fide disciplic succession.
There are four bona fide Vaishnava Sampradaya namely Sri Sampradaya, Rudra Sampradaya, Brahma Sampradaya, and Kumara Sampradaya in which the Vedic knowledge is coming down from Goddess Lakshmi, Lord Shiva, Lord Brahma, and the four Kumaras respectively.
They are considered the authority or Guru of these Sampradayas. The other chief spiritual masters in the line of succession are Ramanujacharya, Vishnuswami, Madhvacharya, and Nimbarkacharya.
There is a wide variety of scriptures in Sanatan Dharma or Hinduism. These are composed in the Sanskrit language and were compiled by Vyasa deva, the literary incarnation of the Supreme Lord Krishna. The Vedic scriptures are mainly classified into two categories: Shruti and Smriti.
Shruti includes the Upanishads and the four Vedas (Rig Veda, Sama Veda, Yajur Veda, and Atharva Veda).
Smriti includes historical literature such as Mahabharata and Ramayana, and the 18 Puranas and 18 Upa Puranas.
