Born in 1935 at Belgaum, Karnataka state. Ravi Paranjape studied Art at Chitramandir, Belgaum, under Prof. K. B. Kulkarni. Ravi obtained the Govt. Diploma in Drawing and Painting from the then Bombay state in 1957. He enjoyed a brilliant career in Mumbai till 1990.
A resident of Pune since then, Ravi also writes on art matters from time to time and has authored a book Shikhare Rang Reshanchi in Marathi. His autobiography Brush Mileage and a book Neeladhavala Dhwajakhali on Cultural Nationalism were published in Marathi in 2006. Ravi got the prestigious 'Bhairu Ratan Damani Literary Award' for Brush Mileage in that very year. In 2008 he got the 'Abhijaat' prize for Neeladhavala Dhwajakhali from Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad, Pune. Paranjape is among the few Indian artists who believe in reflecting realism in their work. The idea, Paranjape believes is that your work should communicate your thoughts effectively and easily to the viewer. He insists that illustration, painting or writing must not leave confusion in their wake.
He has a number of one man shows of his paintings to his credit, both in India and abroad. These have displayed his unique and popular styles.
