Swami Vivekananda was an intellectual dynamo and a profound Vedantist who flooded the world with his extraordinary exposition of Hindu philosophy. His impact on world-religious thoughts started with his illuminating address in the Parliament of Religions in Chicago on 11th September 1893 and made the world audience look up to the Hindu Religion for new spiritual enlightenment and guidance.
As his disciple Sister Christine has noted, "others may be great, they are great only as compared with those in their own class. Others may be good, powerful, gifted, having more of genius than their fellow men. It is only a matter of comparison. A saint is more holy, more pure, more single-minded than ordinary men. But with Swami Vivekananda, there could be no comparison. He was in a class by himself. He belonged to another order. He was not of this world. He was a radiant being who had descended from another, from a higher sphere for a definite purpose. One might have known that he would not stay long."
In the short span of four decades of his living on this earth, he enriched human thought with a new spiritual dimension by his deep insight of Vedantic philosophy. Swami Vivekananda was an intellectual ocean whose waves touched all the shores of spiritual thought; within which were all the tides and waves of all the sublime thoughts of religion and philosophy; over which reigned glory and bliss; upon which there was sunlight and moral beauty and within which was the universe with all its scientific and divine dimensions- an intellectual ocean- towards which all rivers of reasoning and logic ran, and from which now the human kind receives enlightenment and glory.
I have culled out important portions from his speeches and writings and I' am presenting them in this small volume so that the readers may have a glimpse of the splendor and glory of the great man who strode the world as a spiritual colossus. My Wish is, readers after reading this volume should go to the complete works of Swami Vivekananda which would be a great spiritual experience.
