Book Description
About The Book

Wondrous Whispers of Wisdom from Ancient India Volume Three, like its predecessor volumes, picks out the pearls of wisdom from ancient literature of India, which offer a code of conduct, a philosophy of social and ethical relations and lively teaching of morals, so crucial to the society in the new millennium caught up in a turmoil of decaying values.

The selections in this volume include words of wisdom orally handed down the centuries and known as Subhaashitaas (lit. well spoken words), whose authorship remains anonymous, and verses of wisdom from the Epics and Puranas, selections from the Rhagavat Gita, the holy text of the Hindus and lastly the whispers of wisdom from Avvaiwiar, the famous Tamil poet-saint.

Every aspect of life has been touched upon in these ancient maxims.

Like its predecessor volumes, this book offers a rich and varied fare to give practical guidance and lift up the spirits of all: business executives and professionals, educationists, social reformers and public men and women, who are stressed out by the intractable problems and immobilised by the frightening dilemmas facing modern society.

A subject-wise, alphabetical index facilitates easy reference.

Introduction

Wondrous Whispers of Wisdom from Ancient India Volume Three continues the picking of pearls of wisdom from the vast unsavoured treasures of the literary heritage of India, which commenced in Volume One and continued in Volume Two.

The selections in the first volume included words of wisdom orally handed down the centuries known as Subhaashitaas (lit. well spoken words), whose authorship remains obscure in the mists of antiquity, and works of three great Masters of the Sanskrit language: Veda Vyasa (author of Mahabharata), Sankaracharya (the Advaitic philosopher) and Bhartrihari (philosopher-king of Ujjain).

The selections in the second volume included maxims from four great works of antiquity: Panchatantra, Hitopadesa, Tirukkural and Sukraniti.

This third volume comprises four parts:

1. Anonymous whispers of wisdom

2. Whispers of wisdom from the Epics and Puranas

3. Whispers of wisdom from the Bhagavat Gita

4. Whispers of wisdom from Avvaiyaar

The first part is a continued compilation of Subhaashitaas, the well spoken words of wisdom, whose authorship is unknown, but have been orally handed down from generation to generation.

The second part contains selections from the Epics and Puranas.
