This book entitled "Why Museum and Why not Museum: Perspective of a Museologyist on Museums and Cultural Heritage" is a fusion of assorted articles dealing with Museum and Cultural Heritage as an interspersing whole. It consists of six interrelated chapters beginning with Museum as public institution and Museology as academic discipline supplemented by multiple other cognate heritage issues. It is aimed at addressing problems arising out of contemporary situation about the relevance of the museum in the human society.
Prof. Dr Aoiswarjya Kumar Das is the former Maulana Azad Professor Museology of ICCR endowment at the National Museum Institute of History of Art, Conservation and Museology, New Delhi. He is a hardcore museologist having cultural anthropology background worked successfully in various regions and various Government and Autonomous institutions in India contributing in organization and development of museum and heritage institutions. His primary association was with the National Museum of India in which he served as a curator and later as Director (exhibition) for two decades.
His is a person of practical nature and that could be seen in the development of museums in different parts of India starting from Arunachal Pradesh in sixties. Organization and development of Zonal Anthropological Museums of the Anthropological Survey of India in seventies and eighties followed by two important museums in Delhi- Supreme Court Museum and Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial in nineties. In recent times Cultural Museum at the Tezpur University reveals his vision and mission in the field of Museum. Besides, several thematic exhibitions designed and conceptualized by him in the National Museum, National Museum Institute and IGNCA.
