The Author of this book, Sriman Kratu Das Adhikari, was born on 5th July 1944 in Lachharas village, situated in Gujarat province, India. He was born at his maternal grandfather's home, who was also from Vaisnava cultured family. Though the Author considers staying at Vendavan the best, following the instruction of his Spiritual Master, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, he constantly is spreading the message of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.
"Constant flow of thought" is the Mind. The nature of water in a river is to flow constantly; likewise, the Mind's business is to flood living entities with a constant flow of thoughts.
The Mind is described/defined as per the Vedic scriptures in this book During my travels for preaching activities, I'm constantly questioned about the Mind by everyone. What is Mind? How does it act? Why does it function in a particular way? Why does it go out of control? Why doesn't it stay focused? While chanting, the Mind doesn't remain in the holy names of the Lord. Why doesn't my Mind listen to me? Why does it act according to its way?
Various other questions regarding the Mind arise, like why the Mind acts whimsically. Why does the Mind go where it should not be going? Why does the Mind make us suffer? Why does it keep us bound in this material world?
Therefore, I've tried to answer all these questions in this book which generally arise in our Minds.
This book, "Whims of Mind," discusses how the Mind troubles one in executing daily activities and how one can bring it under control. cancalam hi manah krsna, although the Mind is flickering and is hard to conquer but winning over it is not impossible. Our predecessors, Spiritual teachers and Guides (Acaryas) have taught us the art of winning over the Mind in their books and through their instructions, following which we can become delighted.
The Mind has a crucial role to play in executing devotional service. This book throws light on the relevance of the Mind in practicing devotional service and how, with the Mind's help, one can become liberated and attain the loving devotional service of the Lord.
