Anil Kumar Gupta, born in Dehradun, India and belonging to a family of Civil Service Officers had his early education in St Josephs College, Nainital and later in St John's College, Agra. He studied English, History and Economics in Graduation and obtained Master’s Degree in History from St John's College, Agra. He did M.Sc. from University of York, U.K. He was awarded Doctorate in History.
He loves writing, reading and cricket. He has authored a novel The Journey is the Reward.
He joined Indian Administrative Service in 1979 and has held senior positions in the Government of India.
