Waiting for Neelkanth and Other Stories is a translation of Akademi award winning collection of short stories Dudh! Lahul Zehr! These stories portray absurdities of life on a vast canvass encompassing a wide range of themes. This onthology provides a pageant of Dogra life primarily the rural landscape and through a number of concepts and subjects such as acceptance and rejection, longing and belonging and humanism. The subtle and sublime expressions in the anthology delineate contemporary social reality and intricate web of complexities of human life per se. Poignant with universal appeal the anthology showcases the predicament of sensitive beings in the world incessantly embroiled in conflict.
Madan Mohan Sharma (1934-2011) was a prolific Dogri writer who inspired two generations of writers and made pioneering contribution in Dogri literary renaissance. A college teacher by profession, Madan Mohan was an acclaimed novelist, short story writer, dramatist, critic and essayist. He was awarded by the Sahitya Akademi in 1974 for his anthology of short stories entitled Dudh! Lahu! Zehr! He was also a recipient of various other awards for his contribution to Dogri literature. Known for his profundity, his writings cover a wide range of social situations and he wrote radio plays as well. His play Banjar was awarded at national level.
Vandana Sharma is currently serving as Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences and Head, Department of Languages and Literature, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, Jammu and Kashmir. She has eighteen years experience in teaching and research and has published numerous research papers in national and International journals. As an academic with diverse interests such as. Translation, Gender studies, Post colonial studies and Indian English Literature, she has presented papers in numerous national and international conferences with in the country and abroad. She has one critical work and two translations to her credit. As an active practicing translator, she translated the much acclaimed Dogri play Bawa Jitto, written by Padmashree Professor Ramnath Shastri and a collection of Dogri Essays edited by Professor Lalit Mangotra
