Book Description
Foreword

I am happy to introduce to the public the book "Voices of Human Civilization" by Prof. K.N. Rao. It is an interesting book wherein the author reflects on some of the personalities appearing in the recorded history and their contribution to human civilization. It deals with the life of Sankara, the contribution of some eminent Greek thinkers, the concept of Satya and Dharma, the contribution of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda to world thought and concludes with some precious thoughts on the philosophy of science.

The language, the style and diction are exceedingly appealing. The treatment of abstruse ancient thought is refreshingly lucid and precise. This style should appeal particularly to our modern young men.

I wish that the book is prescribed by academic bodies for rapid reading in schools and colleges. This can if elaborated be prescribed as a book on ethical, moral and scientific values.

Preface

Man is not always engaged with the pressures of the immediate. Often, his mind takes trips deep inward and far outward. Therein lie the seeds of human civilization, a bewitching mosaic of Art, Philosophy and Science. I had the good fortune of catching a few, fleeting glimpses of the human mind at work through this large stretch and experienced some exhilarating moments of pure joy. I invite the readers to share the joy for as Rajaji observed, "Joy shared often gets doubled."

About the Book

"There is a word in Sanskrit. Dharma. It defies translation into any other language. Naturally all Indian languages adopted the word as such since a common thread of culture runs through all the peoples speaking them. But what is culture? It is very difficult to say what it is. It is a whole way. of life. It is an outlook on life. It is social conduct. It is a personal code of conduct. It spells out what is right and what is wrong.
