This volume is being presented to vetern scholar, Professor Amrit Madhav Ghatage, (born, 1913), one of the pioneers of Linguistic Studies in India and a doyen of Lexicography. It contains articles by his admirers, colleagues and friends from all over the world.

Professor A.M. Ghatage has always commended international respect for his researches on Linguistics, Sanskrit, and Prakrit. He was Ex-Director, Deccan College Post Graduate and Research Institute, Ex- Professor and Head of the Department of Linguistics, University of Poona and Ex- General Editor of the Encyclopaedic Dictionary of Sanskrit and at present Editor, Prakrit Dictionary.
The present work is edited by V.N. Jha, Director, Centre of Advanced Study in Sanskrit, University of Poona.
