Book Description

Preface

This book was first published in 2007. This is its fifth edition. In the two parts of this book Vedic mantras'-hymns, associated with three 'Yajnas' Brahmayajna, 'Devayajna' and 'Balivaishvadev Yajna' have been compiled. Brahmayajna and Devayajna consist of mantras related to Stuti glorification, Prarthana prayer and Upasana communion with God.

Maharshi Dayananda states, "Stuti creates love for God, Prarthana brings about humility; Upasana leads to God realization.

Brahmayajna also known as 'Samdhya' meditation should be performed twice daily, after sunrise and before sunset, in 'Sandhivela' twilight.

'Samdhya should be followed by Devayajna' or 'Hawan': 'Devayajna' is also called 'Homa' or 'Agnihotra. While performing 'Agnihotra' at least sixteen oblations should be poured into the sacred fire using pure ghee and other fragrant ingredients.

After Devayajna' 'Balivaishva deva Yajna', that is, ten oblations of cooked rice must be offered in the fire.

Daily prayer plays an important role in human life. Man is not a mere body. He posseses a mind, an intellect as well as a soul. In order to lead a healthy and happy life, he must strengthen and purify his body, mind, intellect and soul. Water purifies the body, truth the mind, knowledge the intellect and penance the soul.

A devotee who has faith in the Vedas, communes with God through the recitation of Vedic mantras in his daily prayers. Samdhya' and 'Agnihotra consist of mantras related to the glorification of God through communion and prayers. So as to make of 'Samdhya' and 'Agnihotra' fruitful activities, the performer must understand the meaning of the mantras he is uttering and put them into practice.

A humble effort has been made to explain the mantras in simple language with a view to enabling the performer of 'Samdhya' and 'Agnihotra' to understand the meaning of his prayers.
