Book Description
About the Book
This is the first type of work in the history of Sanskrit linguistics. So far though a number of studies on the Grammatical and Linguistic aspects of Vedic as well as Classical Sanskrit have been carried out, but a contrastive study taking into account phonological and morphological features of Sanskrit language from the point of view of modern linguistics has remained a desideratum. The few efforts made in this direction are neither comprehensive not systematic in their treatment. Keeping in view of the necessity of such a study, this work has been undertaken. It has been produced in parts. First part deals with the phonological features and second part deals with morphological features. This study enables scholars and students to understand the historical evolution of Vedic language and origin and development of Classical Sanskrit. It also sheds new light on the linguistic problems of Indo-European, Middle Indo Aryan languages and Modern Indian which have remained unexplained so far.

Introduction
Introduction of Sanskrit with western world stimulated various types of comprehensive studies on analytical, critical, comparative lines embracing various important branches of it. As such, though a number of studies on the grammatical and linguistic aspects of Vedic as well as Classical Sanskrit have be come to light, a comprehensive study taking into account all aspects of Sanskrit language. from the point of modern linguistics, has remained a desideratum. The few efforts made in this direction are neither comprehensive nor systematic in their treatment. Thus a need for an exhaustive and comprehensive study of the two stages of the development of Sanskrit language from the point of view of modern linguistics, was felt there since long. Keeping in view of the necessity of such a study, this wrk has been carried out. It was completed in two stages. Its first part deal with the contrastive analysis f the Vedic and Classical phonology. The second part deals with the morphological aspects which was earlier taken up for a Ph. D. dissertation in the Panjab University Chandigarh. The examiners of this thesis declared it as the first type of the work in the history Sanskrit Linguistics.
