Preface
Standard texts on astrology define and present charts of Shadvargas but very few books say about the utility of Shadvargas. As a result, most of the astrologers are in dark about the practical utility of Shadvargas. It is for the benefit of such astrologers that I made collection of materials available on the aforesaid topic in Vridha Yavan Jataka, Saravali, Brihat Jataka, Hora Pradeepa, Parashari Hora, Mansagari, Jatak Bharana and others. All these materials are present in the book at hand. The same is also accompanied by critical notes and comments, where felt necessary.
It appears that, followers of Hindu Yavana Sastra adopted a view that a planet in a Varga owned by natural benefic will be invariably giving inauspicious results. They overlooked the fact that these results could be reversed or altered according as these Vargas appertained to friendly or inimical, own and exalted or debilitated signs for the concerned planet. Yavanas further held that Bright Moon will be more auspicious while Dark Moon will be less auspicious. They further held that a combust planet may be weak but never ineffective.
Present book is in six chapter. First chapter deals with Rashi Varga. Second Chapter deals with Hora Varga. Third chapter deals with Drekkana varga. Fourth chapter deals with Navamsa varga. Fifth chapter deals with Dwadasamsa Varga. Sixth chapter deals with Trimsamsa Varga. In fact, these are known as the six Vargas of a planet in a horoscope. Let us clear it by an example. Suppose that the Sun is at 125 degrees of the Zodiac, it will occupy the 5th sign Leo in Rasi Chart which is the Sun's own sign. It will be in the Sun's hora in Hora Chart. It will be Leo in Drekkana Chart. It will be in Taurus in Navamsa Chart. It will be in Virgo in Dwadasamsa Chart. It will be in Trimsamsa of Mars in Trimsamsa Chart. Naturally, a planet as whole may be giving results of various kinds. This is perhaps one of the reasons why we have had experiences of varied kinds in Dasa-Antardasa of Planets in most cases.
Utility of Shadavargas is the first of its kind. It was late B.V.Raman, founder National President of Indian Council of Astrological Sciences who inspired and advised me to write on important classical works for benefit of readers and it was on his inspiration that I wrote the present book I am, therefore, dedicating this book to late B.V.Raman, the inspiring force behind such Research Books by me.
Also, I owe gratitude to A.L. Jain, publisher for giving a reader-friendly presentation to the book in hand.
