Homoeopathy is a nature based science and its relation with plants has been there since inception. Most of the homoeopathic drugs are of plant origin exhibiting varied curative properties. The literature of some of the medicinal plants when found complete in all the three aspects of the Drug Standardization, Drug proving and Clinical verification blooms in the form of a monograph.
As, it has been an endeavor of the Council to prove the new drugs and bring in front of the profession, one of the newly proven drugs chosen from the plant kingdom is "Thea chinensis", whose leaves are used to produce the commonly used beverage, 'tea' in our day to day life.
Thea chinensis, an evergreen shrub, is a native of eastern Asia. It is extensively cultivated in China, Japan and India. Several varieties of this plant found are Thea viridis (green tea) and Thea bohea (black tea). The efficacy of this drug in treating asthma, angina pectoris, peripheral vascular disease and coronary artery disease is found remarkable. Due to its antioxidant properties, it is found beneficial in lowering the cholesterol levels and in combating various cancerous conditions.
The study carried out by the Council's scientists on this drug has yielded valuable information about the several conditions in which it is indicated.
It gives me immense pride to present this work to the homoeopathic fraternity and hope this medicine soon finds a place in your prescription pads through this informative literature.
I look forward that the profession shares its clinical experiences with the Council in the further research study of this drug.
