Preface The commentaries on the small group of formulas called papmano vinidhayah are being published here for the first time. The text of these formulas was first published by W. CALAND as a part (Kandika 5 of Praśna II) of the Baudhayana Śrautasútra (Part I, Bibliotheca Indica, Calcutta, 1904). CALAND had consulted several manuscripts in deciding upon his text of the Baudhāyana Śrautasútra ( Baudhs) of which the papmano vinidhayah form only a part. The variants recorded by him in the foot-notes of course include those concerning the papmano vinidhayah. These formulas were also published, with a few modifications, in the Srautakośa, Vol. I, Sanskrit Section, p. 41 (Vaidika Saniśodhana Mandala, Poona, 1958). No attempts appear to have been made so far to elucidate this group of formulas which is significant from the culture-historical as also philological points of view.
