Dr. Pravabati Guru is working as Associate Professor in Home Science in the Higher Education Department of Government of Odisha. She has published several articles in many reputed national international journals and has several publications to her credit. She is imparting lectures to post graduate and graduate students for over three decades. She has published two books namely "Harassment of working women in domestic and professional front-An opinion study" which has been published by Lap Lambert of Germany and "Griha Bigyan" a text book of home science. She is a prolific writer, eloquent orator and a social activist.
Dr. Jayashree Mishra is an Assistant Professor in Home Science in Women's College, Jharsuguda, Odisha. She has obtained her M.A., M.Phil. and Doctorate degree from Sambalpur University. She has published a book namely "The girl child in a scavenging community" which has been published by Manak publisher. She has to her credit a number of research publication on issues relating to gender discrimination and child rights. Besides teaching, the author is currently devoted to research on problems faced by destitute women and children, role of communication and extension in the field of equality.
It gives us immense pleasure to place before the students and learned teachers of home science, the first edition of ATt Book on Communication and Extension. The aim of the book is to provide a comprehensive exposition of communication. It can be used for Home Science courses of various Universities of Odisha and India.
This text book has been written with the belief that students need to be exposed to the new topics that have come to play a crucial role in communication.
Attempt has been made to make the exposition clear, accessible, lively and engaging. The authors belief that the study of communication, intrapersonal communication, inter personal communication, organisational communication, mass communication, public communication and extension should be enjoyable and stimulating. The book has adopted the verbal method of presenting the material covered, with extensive use of illustration.
Although the writers may drive pleasure from the mere act of writing and publishing, text book writers get satisfaction only if their work is read, understood and enjoyable by the students. However, a text book like this cannot claim originally except redefining or reorienting the mode of presentation of the materials. Standard text books on Communication, Mass Communication as well as Extension has been consulted and used in writing this book.
