When I was doing my HAMS & Post graduation, i used to prepare subjects. When I turned back, I found that i am having bunch of golden notes. My notes were spreading all over Karnataka, not due to my hard work, but due to the contents in it. It was always in my mind that why there is no any textbook of Shalya Tantra, which is having equal similarity to the modem surgical books with their contents, quality, appearance, and colour photos etc. After seeing the dramatic response of my notes, many of my classmates, juniors and colleagues suggested me to write a textbook on Shalya Tantra. Then i started working on this 3 years back. Before taking work in hand I have consulted many Shalya Tantra faculty and students to get different ideas and suggestion regarding my upcoming book. Then attempt is made to make this book simple & reader friendly with providing students with necessary information & better clinical understanding of the subject, without any compromise with basic principles. While this book has been compiled with under graduates in mind, but I am confident that it will serve as a useful reference for even postgraduates and faculty. Though this book is in concise form, it covers all the topics as per revised BAMS syllabus of CCIM, New Delhi in simple language with suitable points. At the end of each chapter frequently asked questions of university exams for last 13 years have been listed. At the end of the book PG question papers of last 9 years with important signs and triads in clinical examination have been mentioned. The most important Viva questions are highlighted with star marks. Since one picture is more worth than thousands of words, nearly 470 colour pictures and photographs are included. The most important points are highlighted in tables (Nearly 100) for easy memorizing the points. In the beginning of each chapter most important key points are highlighted in the box. Basic surgical concepts of Sushruta are compiled and explained in interesting and easy way. A sincere attempt is made for the modern diseases with Ayurvedic management based on the clinical experience. The availability of both Ayurvedic & modern information about each surgical aspect will make the understanding of topic an easier process for students. If there are any mistakes or corrections & inputs, you are always welcome to point them out. So please don't hesitate to put your comments and corrections to me. I hope this book will definitely help final year BAMS students & Shalya Tantra PG scholars all over India to cut short their preparation time during their theory and clinical examinations.
Shalya Tantra is a crucial branch of Ayurveda. The current syllabus of Shalya Tantra for undergraduate course deals with various basic aspects of Shalya chikitsa along with modern aspects of surgery. I appreciate the author for writing this book of Shalya Tantra as per revised syllabus of CCIM for undergraduate students. The colour pictures in the book along with highlighted important points will help the students for easy understanding of both Ayurved and modern aspects of the subject along with its practical understanding. The mode of clinical presentation and the physical signs are mentioned vividly, so as to register in the mind of the reader. Any darn fool can make something complex but it takes a genius to make something simple. This book is boon to students and faculty and would minimize the need of referring to voluminous literature. I congratulate the author and wish him great success.
