The Temples of Bankura District by David J. McCutchion was published by Professor P. Lal on behalf of the writers workshop in 1967. That was a very small book in sixteen pages.
Professor P. Lal cited in his introductory note of that book:
"This is the text of one of four lectures organised by writers workshop, with the co-operation of St. Xavier's College. Ramananda Chatterjee's amla mater, on his Birth centenary in May 1965 (Ramananda was born of a Brahmin Bankura family in Pathak Para) other talks were by Nirad C. Chaudhuri, R. Antonie and Maitreyi Devi.
Professor P. Lal had a small padel Press, just like Marang Buru Press of mine. Professor P. Lal was very careful in his own work and gave much time behind for correct and beautiful printing. This learned and active man got married Smt. Shyamashree the second daughter of Dr. Kalidas Nag. Dr. Kalidas Nag got married to Santa Devi, the eldest daughter of Ramananda Chatterjee.
Shyamashree Lal helped her husband from all sides. She is very simple, and did not like to talk anythig of herself. After Professor Lal's death she has been suffuring much. She was knwon to us as "Kishadi' and I do regard her as if she is my own elder sister.
In the first edition we find only three photographs of temples. But the second edition was enlarged and got a good number of photographs. David had read the Proof for correction just before his sudden death. He had been attacked with incurabel polio.
Writers workshop took much care in publishing this book.
