This book "SYNERGY OF RESOURCES AND SERVICES N UTTARAKHAND" has primarily written keeping in view the needs and interest of researcher of Economics, Social science and Environmental science particularly those working in Himalayan States and more or less similar areas of other hill region of India. It has broadly divided into nine chapters concerning to the articles published in reputed International Journals, case studies and findings of this regions. This book will help to the researchers and line agencies for extension work and plan formulation as well.

Dr. B.K. Joshi took his Master of Science Degree in Chemistry and Master of Arts in Sociology and Economics; followed by a Doctorate degree in Chemistry from Kumaun University Nainital. He has over than thirteen years experience in the field of watershed management particularly on Hydro metrology, soil erosion and water related issues. He has published more than 35 research papers in International Journals of repute, concerning to environmental aspects and chemistry as well. Since 1993- 2006 he had worked as Research Scientist in an internationally funded project at G B Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment Development, Kosi Katarmal, Almora-India. At present he is working as Coordinate Officer under State Planning Commission Government of Uttrakhand. He has attended many workshops and conferences in India and abroad as well.

CS Tulera obtained his Master Degree in Economics from Kuuan University, Nainital. He has experience of serving more than 25 years of State Plan formulation of Government of Uttarpradesh & Uttarakhand. In Present he is working as Senior Research Officer in Uttarkhand.

Dr. R.C. Prasad did Master of Science Degree in Mathematics and Master of Library & Information Sciences from B.H.U., Varanasi; followed by a Doctorate degree in Library & Information Sciences from T.M. Bhagalpur University. He has more than 28 years experiences at scientific positions in reputed organizations viz. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (Indian Space Research Organization, Govt. of India) and G B Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment Development, Kosi-Katarmal, Almora, India. At present he is working as Scientist 'F' in G B Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment Development (An Autonomous Institute under Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Govt. of India).

The Limited resources and unlimited threats of the nascent state Uttarakhand have wide gaps between resources and physical planning. In present a comprehensive plan need to involve to policy maker, planner and stakeholder to framing the joint plan of the professional planner and political class. This is important especially when it is realized that the complexities and ambiguities surrounding the sustaining development of communities in different areas of Uttarakhand has have become more difficult to understand, fund and implement. It distinguishes and highlights the problems of hilly rural areas from those of plain rural areas. Not only is there an urgent need for identifying these unique problems but there is also the need for innovative planning and implementation for human resource development. There has been a long felt need by different researcher, scientist, development actors and line agencies to evaluate these natural resources for innovating to new scientific models.

Thus this book may provide a depth of knowledge to the workers, which will be involved in development of these resources. The book Synergy of Resources and Services in Uttarakhand deals with various experiences observed on the aforesaid aspects particularly in Economic and Social services outreach in the region. This volume is based on the contribution of authors' findings, published work in reputed Journals, reports and proceedings. I am sure; it will prove very useful to the researcher, scientist, engineers, line agencies, development actors for extension works.
