About the Author

The kaleidoscopic events in the life of Shri P. S. Tolani (born 25th August, 1893) are a strange mix of gay and grave colours. But at every step, he has ap- plied practical test of the Bhagavad Gita in his life, be it prosperity, be it adversity. While Shri Tolani, better known as Kaka, was in Pakistani jail, his entire property - comprising vast urban properties and farms spreading over thousands of acres of agriculture lands - was confiscated and he came almost empty handed from his native land Sind to India.

Today with his hard work, he has risen far higher in his estates and nature and is the sole architect and builder of a grand educational campus at Adipur (Kutch), where he is aiming at establishing an ideal university.

He is not only a devotee of the Gita but also a scholar. Having lost his eyesight twenty years ago, he dictated his book Gita My Guide, published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, and translated into Sindhi, under the title Kahani Karma Yogiji. This book is an eloquent testimony of his knowledge of Gita.

Even at the age of ninety years, he is bubbling with new ideas. This book of his makes interesting reading and can well be called Applied Gita.

Introduction

The sun of my life is about to set. God willing, I shall be completing ninety years of my life on 25th August 1983. With the most precious of God's gifts, namely eyesight, denied to me in the evening of my life, I have started dictating a brief but faithful record of my life. I have also dictated my future plans, with an earnest desire, that my children as well as friends would carry on the humble work started by me in Adipur (Gandhidham), a small town in Kutch, one of the most backward areas of our country.

I had completed writing my life history upto 1969 which was published in book form under the title 'My Reminiscences. Since God has been benevolent to grant me an extension of almost fourteen years since then, I thought there is no better pastime than to edit my previous writings and record further events.

My yearning has ever been to devote myself to the study of the precepts enshrined in Srimad Bhagavad Gita which have been compiled in a book entitled Gita, My Guide, published by the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Today, when I am not able to read or write, it is impossible to write a book of this kind, unaided. While writing my earlier reminiscences, I got able assistance from my friends, Shri L. S. Easwarn then our office assistan', (late) Prof. M. A. Shama Iyengar of Mysore, and my present Secretary, Shri Lal M, Mansukhani. Now Prof. Hari Daryani (Dilgir), well-known Sindhi poet, has been good enough to help me in editing my previous work and also bringing the narrative up-to-date. He has also translated my book Gita, My Guide in Sindhi, under the title Kahani Karma Yogiji.

I dedicate this humble work not only to my family and friends but also to the cause of suffering humanity, for which I have been doing my bit, according to my lights.
