The present book is a collection of Research articles on Sanskrit Poetics and Nyaya Philosophy. All articles contain discussion unnoticed and less discussed issues on of Sanskrit Poetics and Nyaya philosophy. Discussion on the connection between two Sastras: Alankarasastra and Nyayasastra has played pivotal role in the development of many poetic concepts. Articles dealing with this theories in a argumentative and effective manner is the soul of this book. Many less known Naiyayika's contribution has been highlighted in some of the articles on Nyaya Philosophy. The book contains many innovative and original ideas which will open up new vistas for further research.

Dr. Sweta Prajapati, is currently Director (I/C) of Oriental Institute, the M. S. University of Baroda, Vadodara. Her Notable publications are: 1. Influence of Nyaya Philosophy on Sanskrit Poetics 2. Bibliography of Palaeography and Manuscriptology. 3. An Alphabetical List of Manu scripts in the Oriental Institute, Baroda (Vol.IV), 4. Panapeti 5. A Marigold of Modern Sanskrit Literature 6. Navya Nyayavada granthah 7. Research in Indian Languages are valued contributions to Indology. Apart from this her research paper published in established international and national journals reveals her commitment to research. She has been engaged in research activities in the Oriental Institute of the M. S. University of Baroda (Gujarat) since 1996. Apart from her dedication to research she has earned for herself prestigious positions in University administration as senate and Syndicate member and also the Vice President of Women's wing of the Maharaja Sayajirao University Shaikshik Sangh.

It gives me immense pleasure to present before the scholars the collection of my research papers on Sanskrit Poetics and Nyaya Philosophy. It is the general belief that these two fields are different and not connected with each other. But this is not true. While working for my Ph.D. on "Influence of Nyaya Philosophy on Sanskrit Poetics", I came across many poetic concepts which are developed on the basis of Nyaya theories. In this process of understanding the Nyaya theories I wrote some research papers on Nyaya Philosophy and Sanskrit Poetics which are not part of my thesis. All these papers were published in various reputed research Journals from time to time. The present book is a collection of those papers. They are critical and analytical in approach. Many unnoticed issues of Sanskrit poetics are dealt with in the papers like concept of Pratibha, concept of Abhasa, concept of Tarka and its connection to Sanskrit Poetics. Influence of Buddhist Logic on Sanskrit Poetics is a crux of my entire study of Sanskrit Poetics. Some of the papers on Nyaya philosophy also deal with rarely studied texts like Manameyodaya and author like Anandapurnamunindra. All these papers are the result of my painstaking efforts in understanding and critically analysing the texts of Sanskrit poetics and Nyaya and putting them in well-arranged and effective arguments for the scholars and students. I hope that this book will be well received by the scholars and students of Sanskrit and allied disciplines.

This book speaks about my entire journey in the academic field. One cannot develop one's own personality and scholarship without blessings and support of many people. At this moment I remember with respect my Guru Late Prof. Rajendra Nanavati who imbibed in me the research acumen and developed my critical thinking, my husband Prof. Rabindra Kumar Panda, an eminent scholar of Nyaya and Vedant and prolific creative writer for his constant encouragement and help and many other scholars like P. V. Kane, V. Raghavan, V. M. Kulkarni, K. Krishnamoorthy, C. Rajendran, Radhavallabh Tripathi and many more whose scholarly writings have helped my research process. I express my sincere thanks to the editors of various research journals for their encouragement when it was needed to me as a budding scholar. I also put on record the contribution of the veteran editors of texts like Alankararaghava, Alankara kaustubha, Alankaramahodadhi, Camatkaracandrika, Rasarnavasudhakara etc who produced important critical editions of poetic texts. The elaborate and exhaustive introductions to these texts have helped me immensely in understanding the various concepts of poetics and engaged me in critical research. I am thankful to my children Urvee and Pratyush for allowing me to spend time on which they had right.
