He has discovered that there is a real need of just the kind of book which he has striven to produce. In the following pages he has endeavoured to provide heads of families, clergymen and others with sufficient information respecting common diseases, and the best methods of treating them to render it possible for them to make good use of the interval between the discovery of disease and the appearance of a medical adviser, or to treat simple complaints when the assistance of a medical man is not deemed necessary.

This book has been written chiefly for the benefit of those who have already become convinced of the value of the Mattei medicines. It is, however, also designed to supply inquirers with such information and evidence as may serve to lead these to try them.

The introductory chapters contain answers to of the objections which have been raised against the remedies. And the appendix supplies a brief epitome of the treatment which has proved successful in combating various serious diseases, including some which are usually regarded as incurable.

Count Mattei has suggested a few simple tests which may serve to convince inquirers that his remedies possess the properties which he attributes to them. Everyone will have an opportunity of performing one or two of these interesting experiments. The old adage says that the proof of the pudding is in the eating. It is equally true that the proof of the medicine is in the using.
