History is a record of the life and achievements of mankind and provides a strong and secure foundation to the posterity, and the history of the lives of great sages is not only a secure foundation but also a golden ladder to attain salvation. One such golden ladder is the epic "Shri Satyanidhi Vilasa" written by Shri Srinivasacharya.
In his verses Shri Srinivasacharya has blended lyrical beauty with Bhakti. It is only such compositions which are considered to be true epics according to Shrimad Bhagavata. Such compositions are sung and enjoyed by great sages. According to Bhagavata if an epic has only literary beauty, it is called "Vayasa tirtha" meaning water sufficient only for a crow. It cannot quench the thirst of the soul.
"Shri Satyanidhi Vilasa" apart from being an authentic historical work, is such an epic which can guide devotees in the right direction. This work comprising many historical events has maintained the tempo of the entire epic in its narration of facts. It is a feast to the lovers of literature and philosophy. The readers are awe struck with the beauty of the figurative expressions and intricate metre in the verses. This composition gets its authenticity from the description of the hero by a poet who is his contemporary. The composition follows the style of "Sumadhva Vijaya". The first three cantos of this work briefly narrate the Ramayana, the Mahabharata and the lives of Shri Madhva and other gurus respectively. The remaining five cantos deal with the life of Shri Sathyanidhitirtha giving details of his place of birth, parentage, the financial state. It also gives an account of Shri Satyanidhitirtha's tours(sancharas) the discourses he gave, the yajnas he performed, the charities he made and the penance, tapas he performed. But these are in brief.
This composition in eight cantos consists of 514 slokas. In the last canto, which is the crown of the epic, the writer has quoted some of the Upadesha shlokas of shri Sathyanidhitirtha which are set to "Arya Vrutta" metre. He has also given enough illustrations. By doing so the writer has made it obvious that he has special blessings of Shri Satyanidhitirtha. As has already been mentioned the writer has made the epic unique by using alliteration and pun which is like adding spices to the nectar of Guru Charitra. As a result one who reads it would like to read it again and again.
