Srimadbhagavata is a glorious treatise of resplendent divinity, most loved by the Lord. Its spiritual influence is vast. Like other Puranas it is the body of Lord Krsņa Himself in word form.
Srimadbhagavata extols one to lead a life in a certain way and hence can be called a Prabhusammita. It is not just a Purana but the crown jewel of Puraņas and hence is also Mitrasammita. It has the characteristics of exceptional literature, kavya, and hence can be called Kantasammita too. It is the only Sastra that embodies all the three methods that take one to the realm of that which is beyond the spirit. With its super arching tone of spirituality, it is the crown jewel of all literature. We do not come across any other Sastra which expounds the divine principles in such brevity.
Srimadbhagavata elaborates the most profound spiritual principles of jnana sometimes in story form, sometimes using examples, sometimes with artifacts, sometimes with imagery and sometimes with direct logical reasoning. It addresses the needs of students of many inclinations, of many levels and that is its greatness.
Sri MR Bhashyam, an engineer by profession, presently retired, had a long stint in various defense organizations and some years in private companies.
Sri Bhashyam, is currently making a very modest attempt to understand Bhratiya Samskṛti in the light of the insights bestowed by Sri Sriranga Mahaguru, Srimata and their elderly disciples like Sri SriRangapriya Sriḥ with their kind blessings. This English rendering is his maiden and humble attempt to make the insightful and scholarly lectures on Srimadbhagavata by the revered Svamiji to a larger English speaking audience.
