Adhyatma Prakasha Karyalaya has been carrying out with devotion all the activities prescribed for it for the purpose for which it was founded by Sri Satchidanandendra Saraswathi Swamiji. One of the main activities of the karyalaya is the publication of the Vedanta books written, translated, English and Sanskrit languages.
Sri Swamiji’s Translations into Kannada of all the prasthanatraya bhashyas of Sri Shankaracarya are very well known in the Kannada land. These books with Sri swamiji’s careful editing of the bhashyas are printed with his translations, scholarly introduction, insightful footnotes, chapter summaries, meanings of difficult technical words etc. The bhashyas are divided into parts which are given meaningful and suggestive titles. These books have run into several reprints over the years. To say the least, by preparing these reading people with the master key to the heart of Sri Shankaracarya.
The Karyalaya has now desires that this blessing should be available to all the students and scholars of Vedanta who may not now the Kannada language. Sri Swamiji himself has edited the Sanskrit Editions of ishavasya, Kena, Katha and Mundaka Upanishads bhashyas. The Karyalaya has now taken steps to translate the foot notes, introductions and other facilities from kannada editions to Sanskrit and publish the devanagari editions of the remaining Upanishads, Bhagavadgita and Brahmasutras. In this project, the present edition of the Bhagavadgita bhashya is the second, with the devanagari edition of the itareya Upanishad bhashya having been published a couple of years ago.
The Karyalaya offers respectful pranamas to Sri Swami Advayanandendra Saraswathi, Who undertook the tedious task of translating the kannada portions of Bhagavadgita bhashya, Kannada edition, into Sanskrit. Sri Swamiji is an accomplished vedant in hailing from the famous mattur family. He was very closely associated with the Karyalaya as the preceptor in the karyalaya’s Adhyathma Vidyalaya for several years, until a few years ago.
We hope that this edition will be very helpful to all Sanskrit knowing students and scholars of Vedanta in this country and abroad. Our founder Swamiji’s desire was to present the advaita Vedanta prakriya of Sri shankaracarya in its purest form to all. We believe that we have taken another step in this direction with this devanagari edition of Bhagavadgita bhashya.
The Karyalaya expresses its profound gratitude to Sri Phaniraj, and Sri Sasi of Bangalore, in Memory of their parents, Sri S. Venkatasubramanya, charted Accountant, Mumbai, Smt. Savithri – Devaraj, USA, and Sri Suresh, Bangalore, for their munificent donations towards printing of this book. We invoke Sri Swamiji’s blessing on these donors and also on all the saints and scholars of Vedanta who have rendered selfless service in editing and proof correction tasks. Also Karyalaya conveys its gratitude to Vagartha Printers, bangalore who have taken a lot of efforts in typesetting and printing this volume with an attractive coverpage.
We invite the reads to write to karyalaya their suggestions if any for improving the book in the future edition.
