Dr. Dole obtained graduate & postgraduate degrees from Tilak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya, Pune. He is working in the department of Rasashastra since 1973. His books on Rasashastra & Bhaishajyakalpana written in Marathi language are very popular amongst students. Presently he is Professor & Head of Department of Rasashastra & joint director of Centre for postgraduate studies & Research in Ayurveda.
To translate a compendium like Rasaratnasamuccaya is not a job of a single person. One has to refer books of religion, philosophy, mythology, various other commentaries in Sanskrta & Hindi language, Sanskrta into Sanskrta & Sanskrta into English dictionaries and so on & so forth. One requires a team of experts. I consider myself very fortunate to have such a team with me. It will therefore be appropriate to mention their names with gratitude as acknowledgement. Dr. Mrs. Yogini Patil, Dr. Mrs. Indira Ujagare & Dr. Mrs. Vinaya Dixit, who are my departmental collegues & very studious & talented persons, helped me in this regard readily. There were many points for which discussion were necessary with persons belonging to other departments than Rasashastra. Here I must mention names of Dr. Mrs. Nandini Dhargalkar, Dr. Pramod Kulkarni, Dr. Rajendra Huparikar. All of them helped me in many ways. In this translation, whenever names of plants are mentioned, I have tried to furnish Botanical names. Dr. Mrs. Tanuja Nesari & Dr. Mrs. Apurva Sangoram of Dravyaguna department of Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya were helpful for this task. M. D. scholar Dr. Durgesh Agarwal, my student also helped me for this work.
Dr. Suhas Parchure, President of Rastriya Siksana Mandala, Dr. D. P. Puranika Principal of Tilak Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, both of them constantly encouraged me. I am very grateful to them.
I am very much thankful to Mr. Sachin Kumar Gupta who offered me this opportunity. Lastly I will be failing in my duty if I do not mention name of my better half, Dr. Mrs. Hema Dole. She being topnotch Sanskrta grammarian, was always helpful in explaining meanings of difficult Sanskrta constructions & other intricacies.
Dr. Sidhdhinandan Mishraji needs no introduction, at least those who are conversent with Rasashastra. His contributions to Rasashastra in the fields of Education & Pharmacy are unparalleled. When I approached him with the proposal to write few words about this effort, he accepted it without hesitation in spite of his busy schedule. I express my deep gratitude for him.
Grand old Man of Rasashastra and renowned scholar, Dr. Sidhdhinandan Mishra has obliged me by writing forward to this work. When I requested to him to do so, he agreed without hesitation. This was about a year back when this work was in progress & was not even completed. I am glad & I consider lucky that within a very short span of time, say about three to four day only, I can impress upon him my ability to translate this book. I am really grateful to him for the confidence he has about my work.
The original forward, 'Prakkatha', is in Hindi, which with his permission I have translated in English, almost word to word.
I will be very obliged if the readers will point out any mistakes that could have been avoided, similarly any criticism, suggestions, comments are also welcome with assurance that due cognizance will be taken.
