was born into a family of pandits. Our wealth and social status were measured by our knowledge of ancient scriptures and our commitment to spiritual practices. I do not remember what toys I had as a child or what kind of games I played, but I do remember how proud and joyful my parents were when I memorized Sri Sukta.
When my Sanskrit teachers came to know how sincerely I recited Sri Sukta every day, they began to teach texts and subjects that had nothing to do with our formal coursework. They introduced me to the scripture Durga Saptashati and taught me how Sri Sukta fulfills all the criteria for undertaking the higher practices of tantra yoga.
Eventually, my most senior Sanskrit teacher initiated me into the navarna mantra. Thereafter, the floodgate of Vedic and tantric studies opened. Later, two great souls, Swami Sadananda and Swami Rama, took my study and practice to a place of which my tongue cannot speak.
This current work is an effort to express my gratitude to Divine Providence, who in her own mysterious way uses me as a conduit to descend into the minds and hearts of all those who study and practice Sri Sukta.
