Shri Hari Krishan was born in October, 1924, in the well-known family of Suchdeva of Dera Ismail Khan Dist. of NWFP, now in Pakistan. He graduated in Science from the Punjab University and took his engineering degree from Benares. After the one-year pre-commission training at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, he joined the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers of the Indian Army in December, 1949.
During his Army service, he meritoriously handled wide-ranging assignments in the military, technical, mangerial, instructional and administrative areas. After retirement from the army in October, 1976 in the rank of Colonel, Hari Krishan joined the Indian Road Construction Corporation, a Govt. of India Undertaking which undertook road construction in the countries of the Middle East. He retired from this Corporation in October, 1985.
It was at this stage that he took to the study of the Upanishads, the Bhagwad Gita, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Adi Sankaracharya's Vivekachudamani, works of Swami Vivekananda, Shri Aurobindo, Swami Sivananda of the Divine Life Society and other seers. Vichara on these works led him to believe that the dialogue between Shri Krishna and Arjuna held right in the middle of the battlefield oozed all the Vedantic Philosophy as applicable to humanity.
Deeper 'vichara' led him to write his comments on each 'sloka' incisively so as to squeeze the essence of knowledge underlying it meaningfully in simple form for quick understanding.
