"A short sketch of life of Prabhupad Bijoy Krishna Goswami by Pankaj Kumar Sen is running into its third edition which is being published on the occasion of the centenary of the 'tirobhab" of the Saint.
Mahatma Bijoy Krishna Goswami (Swami Achyutananda Saraswati) was-a colourful spiritual leader of India in the nineteenth century. His life was varied and dramatic. Born in the direct line of Advaita Acharya, a close associate of Mahaprabhu Sri Chaitanya, Bijoy Krishna followed his family profession of a Guru or spiritual guide, but soon joined the Govt. Sanskrit College as a student of Vedanta. Later on Medical profession lured him as he was admitted into the Medical College. On account of certain differences with the authorities of the college, he gave up his medical studies and became a preacher of Bramho Samaj who worshipped the Extreme Being as Formless entity as opposed to personal God with Form.
His new mentor was Maharshi Debendra Nath Tagore with whom he had a tiff on the question of giving up the sacred thread of a Bramhin. This he did to break away with the Bramhinical tradition. He came close to Bramhananda Kesav Chandra Sen and toured different parts of the country preaching 'Bramho Dahrma'. But in his search for divinity he was restless and not satisfied with his present pursuit. He avidly followed diverse sectarian paths as Karta Bhaja, Aghoris, Baul, Ramats.
