About the Book The kama or erotic passion is present in every creature. It occurs spontaneously not only in humans but also in animals. Therefore, some preceptors are of the opinion that there is no need of education in sexual science. The answer to this objection is that passion in man and woman, whether in the general or in the special sense, is dependent for its satisfaction upon certain steps being taken by them. The knowledge of these may come from the study of the science of sex.

The present volume discusses various issues of the topic in a scientific manner.

Preface The Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal has been conducting Annual Ayurveda Seminars in connection with the founder's Day Celebrations since 1964 and All India Essay Competitions since 1965. The proceedings of seminars and prize winning essays are being published regularly. They cover a wide range of topics and have become a veritable source of information to the students and researchers in the field of ayurveda. 'Sex Education (Laingikavignana)' was the topic for essay competition in 1986.

Introduction The statement that 'Laingika Vignana' (Sex education) is understood by some persons as the knowledge about the methods of sex act and the causes of venereal diseases cannot be considered as an exaggeration. Many persons do not possess even a rudimentary knowledge about the sex organs. The organs related to this knowledge are also known as 'Guhyangas', The word 'guhya' has many meanings; to be concealed, covered or kept secret; private; secret, solitary and mysterious. It is a fact that these organs are to be kept concealed, without exhibiting like animals. Like the organs, this laingika vignana also was mysteriously kept concealed. This concealment gave an opportunity to concoct dangerous and foolish beliefs and superstitions by the ignorant and the quacks to successfully dupe the gullible people. The cheap sex magazines also have joined hands in spreading further false information with noxious results. Because of these mistaken beliefs and lack of proper knowledge, there were a number of cases wherein the tranquility and pleasures of the families had been disrupted and destroyed. The lives of promising youths had gone astray, sometimes with the development of incurable diseases.
