Foreword

Once while being in Malaysia, I came across a magazine that contained the explanations of His Holiness the 41" Sakya Trizin on Parting from the Four Attachments. Similarly, on another occasion, I read a teaching of the late Dezhung Rinpoche that was published on a website. Thus I developed the idea to collect those and other essential teachings given by our sacred Sakya masters and publish them in form of this booklet.

In compiling these precious teachings, I would also like to repay the kindness of my main masters His Holiness the 41 Sakya Trizin and his two noble sons, His Eminence Dezhung Rinpoche (1906-1987), and the late Derge Khenchen, Khenchen Kunga Wangchuk (1921-2008) and Khenchen Appey Rinpoche (1927-2010). These masters gave an uncountable number of important teachings. Among them, especially the teachings of His Holiness the Sakya Trizin are as precious as a jewel.

Those teachings are short essential instructions on Buddhist philosophy and practice. For instance, the first teaching consists in His Holiness the Sakya Trizin's explanation of Parting from the Four Attachments, which had been directly bestowed by Manjugosha on Sachen Kunga Nyingpo. In my opinion, for a serious Dharma practitioner, it is highly important to understand and apply the essence of this teaching as it is a very beneficial tool for becoming a perfect practitioner. The next two teachings are by His Eminence Chogye Trichen Rinpoche (1919-2007). The first is on the Buddha's life story, which is important to study in developing a genuine belief in his person and his teaching. The second is on the practice of Green Tara, who many famous masters, such as Nagarjuna and Atisha, had made their Yidam deity. This practice is very beneficial in eliminating obstacles that might arise during one's Dharma practice. The third teaching is by Dezhung Rinpoche on Shamatha and Vipashyana meditation because without meditation we are unable to liberate ourselves from Samsara. This is followed by a teaching by His Eminence Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche on the Buddhist view. The fifth teaching is by Khenchen Kunga Wangchuk on the benefits of Six-Syllable Prayer-wheel and building Stupas. The sixth teaching was given by Khenchen Appey Rinpoche on the importance of studying the Buddha dharma. The last teaching is by Dzongsar Ngari Choje Tulku Thingo Rinpoche (1945-2008) on By Karma or the Will of God.
