What is meant here by the words secret, metaphysical and knowledge? Part One gives a clear definition of knowledge, but why is it termed secret knowledge? Secrets occur in countless ways, of course, generally for reasons of security or for personal gain through some form of intentional concealment. But the secrets of spiritual Knowledge is more akin to how the mysteries of Nature are beyond our sensual perceptions. All things stand as they are: Nature isn't trying to remain hidden. It seems that there is a limit to the ability of our senses and intellects, however subtle, or of the scientific instruments however advanced, to penetrate into the origin of life. Macrocosm and microcosm recede into infinite vastness. Our reach in these directions is akin to an infant reaching out for the stars.
Yet, there is another dimension, the spiritual dimension, unhampered by this kind of limitations. This dimension, known as the Way, Enlightenment or Salvation, is accessed by inward concentration of mind upon the Origin of life. This experience shines unobstructed within us but is generally ignored. We are not just creatures of this world, but more than that. We are too much entranced or preoccupied by material things and so forget our spiritual part. It is as though man has cast up obscuring clouds from the fires of his passions for so long that the reality of the shining sun has become a memory, a myth and a forgotten secret. Thus our life passes in ignorance.
