Many, both in India and outside India, are appreciating that Sanskrit is ageless and would live forever. But mere appreciation would be of no help to bring back Sanskrit to the pinnacle it once had occupied. Samskrita Bharati has embarked on a mission to restore Sanskrit back to its glorious prima donna status.
The first step in this direction, Speak Sanskrit campaign, has been undertaken giving a lot of emphasis to guide persons (interested), into Sanskrit Speaking Mode. This book will be of immense help for using Sanskrit for day to day conversation in the society.
Once a person starts conversing in Sanskrit, (may be with a few mistakes in the earlier stages), he is sure to improve. This is akin to a child picking up its mother tongue. Wherever an opportunity occurs to converse in Sanskrit, be it in the home, office, school or colleges, one should ensure that he speaks in Sanskrit.
As an aide memoir, for the beginners (shall we say for others also), this book Samskara Bindu will be of immense help. It gives sentences of common usage both in English and their equivalents in Sanskrit. Please overcome your inertia and start conversing without hesitation. In course of time, you would be amazed at your own capacity and slowly you may even start thinking in Sanskrit!
We wish to quote here, one very old adage in Tamil. Translated roughly, it would mean like this. "(Art) Painting is (achieved) by repeated use of the hands. So also a good (Tamil) language is (achieved) by practice of your tongue (meaning speaking)" This is very much applicable to Sanskrit also.
In addition to conversational practice - samskar - of Sanskrit, another kind of samskar is very much needed for mental health and peace of mind. This second samskar is chanting of user's religious slokas. Leading cardiologists all over the world have confirmed about the improvement in the level of mental peace of a person who does chanting meditation and pranayama etc., on a daily basis. The two Samskaras together, are outlined in the book Samskara Bindu.
It is our great pleasure to welcome you with this handbook, to a new environment of good health, peace, happiness and improved Sanskrit knowledge. We thank all donors and karyakartaas who have helped us immensely in bringing out this handbook.
