A deeply rich and transformative trip to India recently awoke in me a practical difference in living one’s spirituality that demonstrated a truly fulfilling way of life. Although it was my third visit there, the experience of appreciating simple art and sacred images of the common people opened a treasure chest of deep and lovely meaning that comes from a love of self, the divine, and all life.

In these times of global transition it feels important to share this ancient wisdom and simple yet profound concepts which provide a framework for bringing oneself into balance in an often chaotic world. The photos provide a medium that can be easily assimilated with minimal time and uncomplicated interpretation of the significant essence of these universal truths. Transcending religion and culture, the purpose is to provide to the Western person and Eastern experience of reverent and compassionate living.

About the Author

Los Angeles based, I’m an author, artist and longtime yoga practioner who enjoys the beauty of nature. Photographing beauty is a passion for me; while living on Maui for many years I was professional photographer for many local events and hotels. Combining my love of spiritually based journeys with the photography was a natural progression in the creation of Sacred Treasures, Divine Wisdom. My business career has been in technology sales, specifically National Accounts Manager for NEC selling data networking equipment to large corporate accounts until 2002. I have integrated my sacred journeys into a busy business schedule Traveling the world initially as an international flight attendant after college, I have had a passion for visiting and exploring other cultures including those in Europe, Africa, Indonesia, Australia and South America. As I have explored, practiced and studied various religions, my life has been one of seeking to know myself and to better understand and refine my nature. In pursuit of this awareness many spiritual traditions have held my attention. My Western way of life, female warrior business executive has always been tempered with a deep appreciation of ancient knowledge and a seeking for those ancient esoteric teaching that have no label yet exude pure divine wisdom.

Although many traditions have resonated within me, and I have studied with a number of excellent masters, it was not until I recently visited India that I fund my deeper heritage and soul resonance. Over the past 12 years I have ventured on a number of sacred journeys such as hiking Mt. Sinai in Egypt, and visiting ancient remote healing ruins in Peru. Some trips were taken with small groups, and others alone and inwardly guided.

Having a Catholic school education, I next studied Esoteric Buddhism, Sufism, and The Bagavad Gita among other traditions; I was invited to visit several lovely places in November, 2004. The first was an ashram on the base of Mt. Arunachala where many traditions situate their temples of different flavors at the base of this sacred Shiva Mountain. Next I traveled to a Tibetan monastery outside of Mysore where I have sponsored a monk for over five years. It was here that the most magical enfoldment of coming home happened for me.

Introduction

The radiant beauty, reverence, compassion and joy experienced in viewing the many expressions of art in India uncovered a deeper meaning and a richer feeling toward the beautiful sacred images I encountered on a recent visit. The many expressions of art in India uncovered a deeper meaning and richer feeling towards the beautiful sacred images I encountered on a recent visit. The experience imbued a reverence, deeper compassion and created a newfound joy through its radiant beauty. As I viewed Tibetan temple paintings and Hindu statues in small outdoor temples, I started feeling the love and intention of the artists and their reasons for creating these beautiful works. I could now understand on a another richer level the devotion and interplay of the artists with their creations. No longer did I look at these special Sacred Treasures as strange or foreign, as I had on previous trips. Internal messages seemed to come through in a way to help me understand how using art, statues or images of a culture can influence the consciousness and actions of the people.

The messages were received through the expression of what is called sacred art and I was shown how it relates to my lifestyle today. Through the expression of what is known as Sacred Art, I received messages of how this revered art form relates to my life today. I was aware, when viewing the scenes painted on a temple wall, of the balance and beauty in a natural setting, which exuded a sense of well-being and freedom that only a carefree life exhibits. My Western way of life, business executive, female warrior, has always been tempered with a deeper knowing of ancient wisdom and a curiosity for those ancient esoteric teachings that have no label yet exude pure divine wisdom. The bridge had been crossed in my heart and I could feel the connection to these devotional expressions that had practical application for me in my culture.

The photos provide a medium that can be easily assimilated with minimal time and uncomplicated interpretation of the significant essence of these universal truths. Transcending religion and culture, the purpose is to provide us an Eastern experience of reverent and compassionate living.

Faced with fast-changing world events, each of us yearns for a better way to balance life with all its complex challenges. Yoga and meditation have become the Western interface to Eastern tradition with a growing desire to understand how those cultures provide practical keys; yet, we lack the time and resources to investigate the answers.

It is my desire to bring the essence projected from these works of art, the feeling of the artist, to the viewer as one’s eyes and heart are transported with each image. The messages contain practical universal truth that my be contemplated and translated into usable precepts in one’s daily life.
