Sanskrit literature in general and the Indian epics in particular are a rich storehouse of romantic tales which have stood the test of time.
Kalidasa's Shakuntalam (about Shakuntala), Sudraka's Mrichchhakatikam (in which Vasanthasena is the hroine) and Bhavabhuti's Malati Madhavam (about Malati and Madhava) are three such.
