There were about one hundred ancient civilizations of which about fifteen are well known, and duly documented. Rest of them are neither known nor remembered by the modern society, excepting perhaps by historians and those who are specialising in ancient civilizations. Those civilization despite their past to glory, name and fame do not enjoy significant status at present. However, I consider the modern society, particularly youngsters should know about 5000 to 10000 year old achievements. More importantly as to why those ancient societies which were innovative, creative and dynamic could not sustain their preeminent position once enjoyed. Is it possible that the modern civilized society in which we live will also meet with the same end. In this concise book, I have dealt with Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greek, Roman, Mayan, Chinese and Indian (both indus valley and vedic civilizations) in the content of their rise and fall and the reasons therefor. I have analysed in depth Indian Civilization, its past and present and future prospects.
I have made the book lucid and simple and also concise and comprehensive for the readers to gain good knowledge on ancient civilizations. However for detailed information on the subject one can consult to other sources. There are a good number of books on the subject writ- ten by accredited authorities. This book is more a primer to introduce the subject to the readers.
