The great tragedies which took place during World War It the destruction of cities and peoples, made the countries of the world decide to get together and form an organisation called the United Nations. This body came into being in 1945 the purpose of the United Nations Organization was to bring peace to all the countries. All international leaders made a promise to themselves that they would never allow the carnage and suffering that took place during this war to ever happen again.

They decided to prepare a document or agreement to be signed by the member nations. to keep safe the rights of every individual on earth, a night to have what is good for oneself. Without encroaching on the nights of another.

A Committee was appointed by the United Nations to prepare the document. The Committee was made up of 18 members from 8 countries. It took less than two years to compose the entire text of the UN Declaration of Human Rights. It is well known that the driving force behind this work was Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt, the Chairman of the Committee.

When asked where do Universal Rights begin, she wrote: "In small places, close to home so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person, the neighbourhood he lives in, the school or college he attends, the factory, farm or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.
