India is a big country. It has long history and has had its own boundaries. It is a complete geographical expression. "The country which is to the north of the sea and south of the Himalayas is called a division called India." The people of this region are called the children of India. In spite of geographical factors resulting in internal divisions, this geo graphical region had become a unit. In ancient times, this country could not be politically united owing to the lack of the means of transportation and other reasons. None the less, there were many factors at work which gave India the appearance of a country and its cultural unity remained. The basis of the social life of our country is identical throughout its length and breadth. The caste system, verna system, traditions and rituals were essentially common throughout the country. Today the basis of the Indian society is the caste system and verna system. Owing to practical reasons, these systems were further divided. Today the number of sub-caste in India is more than what they are in any other country of the world. This made an impact on those foreigners also who came to India. They were assimilated in the Indian society through marriages and other reason and could not keep their separate identity.
