Book Description
About the Book

One needs instructions for modelling one's actions and behaviour. Traditionally, this was provided by elders and gurus. With changing times, reliance is now on experience and self help. Contending ideologies and philosophies have created utter confusion. In this book is summarised all essential knowledge for self discovery and self culture. This primer of religion and philosophy will be found to meet all requirements of healthy inquiry. Trust is placed on pragmatism and human judgement, secularism and certain large heartedness.

About the Author

Prof. J.N. Nanda, with a string of academic distinctions including two earned doctorates, multitude of awards from the IBC and American Biography Association, and other national and international awards, is a distinguished scientist, thinker and writer. He has represented India abroad many times. He has summarized his all embracing philosophy and religion as New Mahayana in which all 'isms' co-exist. Among his scientific contributions, mention can be made of his new light on the earth's internal structure, the origin of the moon and the origin of earth's magnetism etc. He has travelled practically in all continents and studied many languages. Besides his scientific books and publications, mention may be made of his book "Science and Technology in India's Transformation", released by the President of India at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in 1986. Other important books are Foreign Policy of Co-existence- India, Glimpses of Indian History and Culture, and Co-operative Development of Marine Resources.

Preface

This little book contains the elixir of life for the human kind. The Nations of the World must be at peace. The United Nations can be strengthened to bring about respect for international law and thwart terrorism of every variety. The nations can compete for contributing to world prosperity and world culture. The internal and external peace can be assured through religious, economic and political coexisting policies. Science and technology can bring about sufficient production to meet the legitimate needs of all the people on this earth. Everyone has a share in the resources that are available.

There are sufficient grounds for all to see the dismal end of imperialism and fascism or of exploitation whether through captive markets or through captive populations. No country or people can assume any divine indulgence over others. Human mind has depths not fully fathomed and there is room for all kinds of beliefs and ambitions but need of the hour and of humanity is to guard against greed and self-indulgence at the cost of others. The whole world is in kinship to each other.

Indian secularism and New Mahayana are the key to peace and prosperity. The revolutions and momentous events grow out of seed strewn by thinkers and philosophers. This book, including the background of oriental and western philosophy, is towards the invention of new philosophy and understanding that can facilitate the knitting together of the world as one family. The new philosophy will use extensively science and scientific developments including experiments with genes, chemical and gene therapy to cure mankind from attraction of violence and injustice for private profit.
