Book Description
About the Book

"Reformatory" is an English translation of Sahitya Akademi award-winning Punjabi novel, Sudhar Ghar. This novel takes a relentless look at the state of prisons, the working of the state of prisons, the working of the police machinery and the judiciary. Itis a searing, honest account of what goes on behind the scenes in prisons and is heart-wrenching in its description of human misery. The title "Reformatory" which is what prisons are supposed to be, is wryly satirical as the book proceeds to give, in great detail, what the reformatories are really like and what they do to the people unfortunate enough to find themselves inside them.
