This book presents to its readers a compilation of various articles published in newspapers over the last few years, with the motive to widen the perspective of our people. The articles are mostly politically charged, providing a well thought critique of the workings of our non working government. To say that Kashmir has gone through a series of tremendous ups and downs is actually an understatement, and the themes of the articles are proof of it. The perspective of a Kashmiri, a writer, an academic all come together in these articles.
Kashmir has been tremendously read and written about. Its struggle and the perception about its people should be spread across as widely as possible. Kashmirs political struggle and conflict has been addressed here. The information discussed are all real matters suffered by the local people on a regular basis. Although the areas of focus have been politics, women's issues, plight of the environment, weather conditions to name a few, these further make us understand how much our people have to face. Taking the political tension, for e.g. we see how education suffers and how our children are victims of a war like situation. Our conflict has deeply impacted our economic and financial growth. The reflections on the concerns regarding women have also been brought to the forefront in the present book. Our women are the face of courage, strength, power and resilience. Their achievements need to be recorded and rewarded.
The book constitutes an attempt to draw from various issues that surround us in our daily lives which has implications for everyone and enable us to connect with society. The essays in this volume propose to throw light upon the ways and forms through which varied concepts and ideas are carried and transmitted to the audiences in the complex dynamics that we come across. The arguments articulated are not exhaustive and yet characterise our social and political experience. The overall aim is to explore current day issues and how they affect our view of the world. They provide a fresh look at the directions in which contemporary discourse is moving.
