Author born in Vill. & P.O. Khagawal, Distt. Chandauli (Varanasi)-U.P. M.A. (Ancient Indian History, Culture & Archaeology, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, 1973), Ph.D. (B.H.U., 1980). Studied Museology (B.H.U.), German (Sanskrit University, Varanasi), M.A. (Sanskrit, Gorakhapur University, 1993).

Joined the Department of Culture, Government of Uttar Pradesh as Registering Officer, Antiquities and Art Treasures in 1977. Also worked as Incharge Government Museum Jhansi and Gorakhapur.

Deptt. of A.I.H.C. & Archaeology B.H.U. declared to Award 'Pt. Gauri Shankar Hira Chand Ojha' Gold Medal on Ph.D. Uttar Pradesh Sanskrit Academy awarded special prize on its publication in 1986. Chand Das Sahitya Shodh Sansthan Banda awarded 'Highest Historical and Archaeological Honour' of the year 1989 for discovery of a new chapter to the history of India. Awadh Numismatic Society and National Numismatic Society honoured in 2019 for numismatic researches.

Participated in more than hundred National/International Seminars and more than twelve dozen research papers have been published. Published Books : 1. उत्तर भारत में अंकों का विकास, 2. राजकीय संग्रहालय झाँसी : दिग्दर्शिका, 3. Archaeology of Erach: Discovery of New Dynasties, 4. ser एवं पुरातत्त्व के नवीन आयाम, 5. एरच के अभिलेख एवं सिक्के, 6. Erach Rediscovered: Coins, Inscriptions, Seals and Sealings.

This book sheds new light on many aspects of Ancient Indian History, viz. Kalidasa in 2nd century B.C., Pushyamitra's Dynastic name 'Baimbika', Identification of Pawa with Virabhārī in district Kushinagar, U.P., Epigraphic evidence of Pundarika Yajña, Aśvamedha and Sarvamedha, City Coins of unknown site Earch, Seal of Agnimitra, the son of Senapati Pushyamitra, Coins, Seals and Sealings of several unknown kings of Kausāmbi, Pañchāla and Erach.

Thus, this book will be very useful to the students and researchers of Ancient Indian History, Numismatics and Epigraphy.

Numismatics and Epigraphy are inportant archacological source for the study of ancient Indian history. They shed welcome light on Indian political and cultural history. They confirm the history known from other sources as well as they throw further light on such aspects for which no other evidence is available This book is the collection of my papers published in various reputed journals from time to time. There papers are based on original discoveries and new interpretation of archaeological materials.

I am greatful to the issuers of coins, seals-sealings, inscriptions and also those scholars who gave the base for my research work.

I express my heart felt gratitude to my grand-father Shri Jagadamba Lal, grand-mother Shrimati Gujarati Devi, father Shri Vishwanath Lal and mother Shrimati Sita Devi.
