The Ramayana is one of the two greatest Indian epics (the Mahabharata being the other. It is one of the oldest enduring dramas in history. It is the central scriptural writing in Hinduism and of utmost significance to the Indian culture, with a deep moral and historical context embedded in the narrative.

Written by the great sage Valmiki, The Ramayana provides an account of the story of Ram, one of the greatest gods in Hindu culture. Rama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, spent fourteen years in exile at his father's request, with his wife Sita and brother Lakshman. Sita was kidnapped by demon king Ravana in the forest. They engaged in a great and furious battle that ended in the rescue of Sita.
