About the Book The mighty civilisation which man has so arduously built over many millennia now lies helpless on the brink of large scale destruction and even annihilation. It is because Mind has been too much with us. It is partly because our civilisation has long been unidimensional in its nature, more like a monolithic THE AUTHOR monster in body without a soul. By bringing the supramental upon earth Sri Aurobindo salvages the psychic of the race from beneath the dead debris of rank materialism. Unmiti- gated rationalistic materialism is the enemy of the integral progress of the race. It can be reformed and recycled for the multidimensional progress of mankind only by the supra- mental Truth-Consciousness. And this will come about progressively, and step by step. The change should begin with the sincere and persistent efforts of at least a few seekers and hero-warriors-the Arjunas representing the race. We need to have spiritual community centres spread all over the world which can fertilise mother earth more and more, and facilitate the spiritual transformation of society. This has been profitably experimented in ancient India, and the many ashramas fought bravely against the onslaught of the Adversary in the preservation of the necessary spiritual fervour. Such an experiment in our own times will not be of much help to humanity unless there is a constant interaction between these community centres and the rest of the world. Moreover such communities should be in society and as a part of society with an ardent prayer for the Grace and protection of the Divine.

The Auromira Centre, London, is one such community aspiring to serve the advent of the new Satya-yoga.
