The special characteristic of this book is that Dr Hughes, himself a great physician, has thoroughly availed himself of the experiences of his predecessors and colleagues all over the world, enriched by his own, and has never been wanting in recommending the findings of others, whenever necessary. In short, the votaries of Homoeopathy will find in this book of reference, the methods of treatment of all the great homoeopaths of the 18th and 19th centuries, with a man of Dr Hughes' skill and experience to guide them.
Richard Hughes (1836-1902): Born in London, England was an orthodox physician [M R.0 S. (Eng.); L.R C.P. (Edin.) M.D from American College] and converted to homoeopathy. He was a great writer and a scholar. He practiced homoeopathy at Brighton Homoeopathic Dispensary. In 1876, Dr Hughes was appointed as Permanent Secretary of the Organization of the International Congress of Homoeopathic Physicians in Philadelphia and in 1889, he was appointed as an Editor of British Homoeopathic Journal.
Dr Hughes was actively involved with Dr T.F Allen in compilation of Encyclopedia, and with Dr Dudgeon in translating Hahnemann's Materia Medica Pura into English.
