The Presidents of India describes the lives and achievements of the persons-from Dr. Rajendra Prasad to Shri K.R. Narayanan - who have occupied the highest office of the nation as the President of Indian Republic.
Prashanta Goswami studied at the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela and obtained his degree in Engineering in 1972. He worked for a year in Assam Industrial Develop ment Corporation and then joined Assam Carbon Products Ltd. in 1974. Shri Goswami evinced keen interest in Literature from his early childhood and has been writing since his schooldays and took to some serious writing since 1985. The Presidents of India is his first book.
Writing this book has been an experience as well as an ordeal. I am neither a journalist nor an author though I have been writing off and on for some time - my writings have invariably been a medium for venting out my frustrations at the prevailing situations and my inability to do anything to correct these. It was therefore a total surprise to suddenly receive the offer from Sri Praveen Mittal, Managing Director of B.R. Publishing Corporation, New Delhi to author a book on the Presidents of India under the title 50 Years of India's Independence Series. I am grateful to Sri Praveen Mittal for giving me this opportunity. I am indebted to Dr. Indira Goswami (Mamoni Raisom Goswami), Head of Department of Modern Indian Languages and Literary Studies in the Delhi University for trying to make an author out of me- she has been an inspiration and a true sister and I do sincerely hope that I have succeeded in living upto to her expectations. I must convey my gratitude to my childhood friend Smt. Ruma Das, founder Principal of the most successful Pre school of Guwahati for finding time from her very busy schedules to go through my hastily typed manuscripts and carry out the necessary corrections. As I have stated at the very beginning, this is my first book and very truthfully speaking not exactly my 'cup of tea'. This sort of writing requires a lot of research and indepth study which was not possible with the very limited time I was given by the publisher and unfortunately Guwahati cannot boast of adequate facilities either. I was therefore totally dependent on the various literature provided to me by Sri Mittal and my very limited knowledge of the lives of the persons who have occupied the Rashtrapati Bhawan during the past fifty years. I would, therefore, request my readers to excuse shortcomings and point out my follies which would go a long way in correcting myself in my future endeavours. Finally I must thank my wife Anjana and my sons Dabboo and Minchoo for their relentless goading to complete the manuscripts within the given time frame they were more concerned about the work on hand than I was and stoically bore the very odd hours I kept to complete this book. llione ndl is enopsisod I do sincerely hope that my labour will benefit someone somewhere.
