Book Description
About the Book

This volume brings together the speeches and writings of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan between May 1964 and May 1967, the concluding three years of his term as President of the Indian Republic. The speeches and writings of the first two years have already been published in a companion volume.

Dr Radhakrishnan has spoken, in India and abroad, on a wide variety of subjects of national and international importance. His main theme has been the common humanity of all mankind and the indestructible world of the spirit. The profound introspection and the depth of vision that mark his utterances are chiefly lavished on the problems created by the disruption and conflict that menace man's inner-most self in the world of today.

To Dr Radhakrishnan, man's only hope is a world community, a brotherhood where each human being belongs to the household of God, where truth is the only abiding reality; and the only way in which this hope can be fulfilled is by bringing about an inner revolution in the imprisoned mind of man. In noble accents that are at once persuasive and dignified, Dr Radhakrishnan exhorts both East and West to widen the horizons of their understanding and sympathy.

The speeches and writings in this volume are grouped under eight heads as follows: One World; India; Philosophy and Religion; Education and Culture; Friendship for all Nations; Gandhi, Nehru and other Leaders; Books and Authors; and Miscellaneous. Almost all the speeches were given extempore and the transcripts in this volume are based on tape-records.
